Black-Owned Small Business Favs!

One of the goals I’ve set for myself as a consumer is to focus on shopping locally and supporting small businesses, especially Black or minority owned small businesses. During the pandemic, I had the opportunity to research Black-owned businesses and found there were tons out there with their own versions of products I use on a regular basis. In some cases, I have traded my big box brand products with products I purchase from these small businesses.  Check out my video below to see some of my favorite items from 5 different black-owned small businesses! Best of all I know 3 of the 5 business owners personally, which makes buying from these businesses even more meaningful to me. I will definitely have a part 2 coming soon as well as a favorites from black/minority owned product lines!

Wash day: My first impressions of Wakati hair products

Hello everyone! As a natural hair girl, I love trying out new products to see how they will work with my curls. One product that I recently came across is the Wakati hair line. I had not heard much about it but then noticed that my Ibotta app had rebates for the entire line. I Googled and them and found out it was a brand for natural hair (particularly people of color) so I decided to give it a try. All products were relatively affordable (in comparison to other natural hair products) with a 9.99 price tag for each item. Here are a few other fast facts about the Wakati line that you will hear more about in my video:

  • Created in partnership with students from the HBCU Florida A&M University
  • Paraben & sulfate free
  • SUPER moisturizing
  • Affordably priced at 9.99 per item
  • Available at Target and Walgreens online and in-store

Yes! Healthy food seasonings do exist! - Flavor God Seasonings review

Happy Easter ya’ll!  I’m from the south and one of the things we do is eat and eat GOOD! By good I don’t necessarily mean healthy, but I mean good as in flavorful and well seasoned. Unfortunately, many of the seasonings we and most other people that use seasonings and spices to add more flavor to their food often have deal with the fact that most of those flavorful  seasonings are high in salt/sodium content, possibly high in calories and generally aren’t healthy for our bodies. This is especially true if you come from a family that tends to have a history of health conditions such as high blood pressure and/or diabetes. In the African-American community, these conditions did to run strong and in many cases our diet is at the root of the problem.

I had been hearing about Flavor God seasonings for a while so I decided to give them a try. I’ve been pleasantly surprised so far. The flavor is still there yet many of the seasonings are 0 calorie and much lower in sodium (if it has any at all) than our traditional seasonings like McCormick, Mrs. Dash, Webber, etc. I still use those other brands from time to time but it’s great to have healthy alternatives available that don’t compromise flavor. Take a peek at my video to learn more about some of my favs and how I use these seasonings in my everyday cooking. Don’t forget to like & subscribe while you’re there!

T-shirt quilts- A cool way to declutter and preserve your old t-shirts!

If you’re like me, you probably have some old t-shirts in a drawer, storage, under the bed or somewhere around your house that you never wear but you don’t want to donate or toss out. Chances are these shirts possess some sentimental value and although you can’t or won’t wear them anymore, you don’t just want to toss them out. While there is nothing wrong with holding on to these cherished possessions, they can become a bit of a clutter issue or you may just get tired of moving them from one place to the other. Insert the solution to your problem, Project Repat T-shirt quilts. Project Repat is a company that takes your old t-shirts and turns them into super cozy quilts. They make great gifts and can be a great way to reduce clutter and reduce your impact on the environment with textile waste. I've ordered from this company twice and been very pleased with the results. Check out my latest video to see my quilts and learn more about this company and their purpose.
