Marquita's Moments

So what better way to start this page off but by posting another milestone in my educational career!! In May 2020, I officially completed my 2nd Master’s degree in Distance Education and E-learning from the University of Maryland Global Campus! In the midst of adjusting to teaching online (my school system closed mid-March) during the pandemic, to include scheduling and holding IEP meetings, and trying to write my final 20 page research paper for my last Master’s class, it was quite an adventure! My program was a 100% online program so I’m not completely new to the online learning environment as a student or a teacher. I can’t help but laugh at the irony of the situation (completing a degree in online learning during the pandemic when the world switched to online learning) and also feel that this is just another example of how your steps are ordered by the universe at times. When I started the program, I wanted to do it as a way to branch out into a new career. While this is still my end goal ( I would like to go into corporate training or a related HR role) I never thought I’d actually be utilizing the skills I’ve learned in this program to the extent that I will be this upcoming school year. I know for many people the pandemic has been stressful and brought about a lot of fear and uncertainty in various areas of their lives, but for me the pandemic has brought me more peace and allowed me to focus and enjoy other aspects of my life that usually get put on the back burner due to work and being enrolled in school. I am still working on completing a graduate certificate in HR management, however, I may put that on hold for a semester (only 2 classes left) as I adjust to the changes at my job with the online learning and potentially progressing to a hybrid model within a couple of months. Either way I am so happy to have this new skill set under my belt, especially at this critical time when the knowledge and tools I gained during my program are in high demand! I will be ordering a frame and all of the goodies to go along with it, however, my in-person graduation has been postponed to a later date due to the pandemic. Even though it is my 2nd master’s and 3rd degree overall, I still view it as an accomplishment even if I’m not as hyped about it as I was when I finished my Bachelor’s. I still put blood, sweat and tears into making it to the finish line!
